School Sessions

School begins at 9 00am.

Children enter via the front door, deposit lunch boxes and school bags in the appropriate place and then go into the playground where they are supervised from 8. 50 am.

Children who are in the playground earlier than 8.50 am are there unsupervised.

Lunch is between 12 noon and 1 00pm. Supervision is provided. All children are required to bring a packed lunch if they do not go home for lunch. Free packed lunches are provided for entitled children.

The children may bring a ‘healthy snack’ - fruit or vegetables - to be eaten during morning playtime. They eat this in a ‘no running’ area of the playground for safety reasons. A government initiative provides for the children in YR, Y1 and Y2.  They may also bring bottles of water which are kept in their classrooms

School closes at 3 15pm. Parents are requested to go into the playground and collect their children from the class teacher. Once collected from the teacher the children are expected to stay with their parents and not run about in the playground.

Children in the Reception Class may be collected from the playground at 3.10pm.

If a parent is delayed at the end of the day their children will be looked after in school. No child is permitted to go with another parent unless by prior arrangement for safety reasons.

Parents are requested not to bring dogs into the playground or onto the field - for obvious reasons!

The PTA invoked a voluntary 'one-way system' to ease the congestion both first thing in the morning and at going home time. Cars are requested to approach school from the Church end of Castle Street, deposit children, then carry on along Castle Street, up Swan Lane, back along Millfield Avenue and up or down Station Road as appropriate. This, hopefully, will ensure greater safety for all.

Hours Taught

The number of teaching hours per week is 23. This may take the form of whole school, class, group or individual tuition.

Charges and Remission

The Governing Body of Marsh Gibbon CE First School recognises the valuable contributions that the wide range of additional activities, including clubs and trips, can make towards pupils' personal social education.

The Governing Body aims to provide and promote such activities both as part of a broad and balanced curriculum for the pupils of the school and as additional optional activities.
Our policy is:

  • Where activities take place in school session time parents will be invited to make voluntary contributions towards the cost of the activity and on a pro-rata basis but that pupil cannot be debarred from taking part in that activity because his/her parents do not contribute.
  • Where activities take place outside school session time, charges will continue to be levied where appropriate , e.g. football clubs.
  • That appropriate charges be made for ingredients and materials where parents have indicated that they wish to own their child's finished work (eg cookery and handiwork).
  • That any application for a full or partial remission of charges be considered by the Headteacher.
  • That parents may be required to meet the cost of breakages and damages where this is the result of their child's unreasonable behaviour.

School Organisation

A five class system gives the following pattern of classes

Butterfly Reception
